How to become a Christian - Steps to Christianity

A Christian is a person who accept God in his life, accept Christ as his Lord and savior. A Christian lives according to the teachings of Christ and live as Christ lived when He was on Earth, without sins.
The Father loves us, not because of the great propitiation, but He provided the propitiation because He loves us. Christ was the medium through which He could pour out His infinite love upon a fallen world. s.c

All He is asking from us is to have faith in Him. We need to believe that He will accomplish what He promise to us. He would like us to have faith in Him and to live according to His requirements.

 Faith comes by hearing

God always put us in a situation to discover about His word, some have parents who are believer and learn from early ages about God, some meet missionaries in different places and circumstances and learn about God. He always gives us an opportunity to come to Him. So next time you get the opportunity to know more about God, make time to pursue it. When you give God the opportunity to listen to His message, He will touch your heart and lead you to Him.

We need to believe and have faith in God, in His son and we can only grow our faith by knowing exactly what God is asking from us. We have His message in the Bible.

Bible study

“As our physical life is sustained by food, so our spiritual life is sustained by the word of God. And every soul is to receive life from God’s word for himself. As we must eat for ourselves in order to receive nourishment, so we must receive the word for ourselves.

In the church, you will be assigned to a pastor to take you through bible study. You will be thaught everything you need to know about your faith, you will find out that God has thought of every aspect of your life. From your health, to your life in community, and so on....

The best way for you to really understand God is to carefully study the Bible, asking God for the aid of the Holy Spirit, that we may understand His word. You should take one verse, and concentrate the mind on the task of ascertaining the thought which God has put in that verse for us. You should dwell upon the thought until it becomes our own, and you will know ‘what saith the Lord.’”—desire of ages

Repentance prayer

The word of God will illuminate you and you will understand that it is impossible for you on your own to escape from the pit of sin in which we are all sunken, but with the help of Jesus Christ we can overcome anything. He will act from within us to transform and change us. You will come to Him with repentance.

You need to understand first why you need repentance otherwise you may repent for the wrong reason. The bible tells the story of prophet Balaam who  terrified by the angel sent by God to kill him, he was scared for his life and repented, asking forgiveness for the sin he committed but it was not a genuine repentance.

We need to repent because of the influence of the Holy spirit revealing to us the sacredness of the law of God, convicting us of the infinte love He has for us. The conviction happens in our mind and heart, we get to understand our sinful state and sense the righteousness of Christ and we long to be purified, to be cleansed and restored in communion with God. Only Jesus Christ can help us achieve that.

A great example of repentance is given by King David. His repentance was sincere and deep. There was no effort to escape the judgement threatened. He saw the enormity of His sin and the defilement of his soul. It was not only pardon or forgiveness that he prayed for but for purity of his heart and he longed for the joy of holiness to restore the harmony and communion with God.
A repentance as this can only be obtained from Jesus Christ who ascended up on high and has given a gift unto men. sc24

Confession

True confession is always of a specific character and acknowledges particular sins. They may be of such a nature as to be brought before God only, they may be wrongs that should be confessed to individuals who have suffered injury through them, or they may be of a public character, and should be publicly confessed. But all confession should be definite and to the point, acknowledging the very sins of which you are guilty. sc 41

The humble and broken heart touched by genuine repentance will appreciate the love of God and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary and as a son confess to a loving father, so will the truly penitent bring all his sins to God. As in john 1:9, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Baptism in the bible

After giving God the opportunity to touch your heart, now that you have accepted Him in your life, learned the pillar of faith, you will be called to be baptised.

This is exactly how happy God is when He saw people coming to Him. Baptism is a act by which you tell God that you are His for ever. That is why jesus Christ established it for us to continue. He told the disciples in Mathew 28:19-20, to teach all the nations and baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit. Again in Mark 16:16, He says he that believes and is baptized shall be saved,...
Baptism is the symbol of our alliance with God, one of the conditions we have to realise in order to be saved.

When we get baptised the Pastor tells us, as you go under the water you leave your past life in it and you become a new creature, this is so true. All which did not give grace to God is left behind, now that you are a new creature, you will not ever walk alone, the Holy spirit will always be with you.

I remember when I came out of water, I prayed to God that every day of my life brings me closer to Him. So in everything I will do, I ask myself, what would have Jesus Christ done in such a situation. The great thing is we always know the answer.

Separated from the world

Once you become a Christian, you are call to live in a way that will glorify God. He calls his people to be separated from the world. Come out of them and be ye separate, says the Lord and touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you and will be a Father unto you and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Almighty.

As you choose to become a christian, do not make the mistake that many proffessed Christian made  because of self-love, desire of approval, thirst of popularity, to conform to the rule and culture of the world. Because being separated from the world means living according to the word of God, building a character that will shine and bring people to God.

And always remember that we can not put ourselves in a place or situation which Christ would  not. Everything we do should glorify God and inspire people to come to Him.

This is the begining of a lifelong journey, until Christ comes again.

Call to action

All your life long your heart has been in rebellion against God. You have trampled upon His offered mercy, choosing the pleasing things of the world and the service of Satan rather than the service of Christ. Yet Jesus in unbounded mercy still invites you to choose Him as your Saviour and become a child of God, an heir of glory.
Let this desire be ever with you, for it is important for you to see yourself as a sinner in order for you to feel the necessity of pardon through the blood of Christ. Let your second prayer be, “Lord, reveal to me Thyself, Thy mercy, and the value of Thy blood.” Lay hold on everlasting life.
Seek heaven, seek true humility, and God will then direct your path.—Letter 2, 1865. DG

JESUS CHRIST

Who is Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the son of God.

From the days of eternity the Lord Jesus Christ was one with the Father; He was the image of God, the outshining of His glory.  Jesus is “the Word of God”—God’s thought made audible. HLV11

The Father and the Son engaged in the mighty, wondrous work they had contemplated, of creating the world. The earth came forth from the hand of the Creator exceedingly beautiful.

In the beginning, Christ laid the foundations of the earth. His hand hung the worlds in space and fashioned the flowers of the field. He filled the earth with beauty, and the air with song. See Psalms 65:6; 95:5.Upon all things He wrote the message of the Father’s love. HLv 11.3

After the earth was created, and the beasts upon it, the Father and Son carried out their purpose to make man in their own image. They had wrought together in the creation of the earth and every living thing upon it. And now God says to his Son, “Let us make man in our image.” As Adam came forth from the hand of his Creator, he was of noble height, and of beautiful symmetry. He was more than twice as tall as men now living upon the earth, and was well proportioned. His features were perfect and beautiful. His complexion was neither white, nor sallow, but ruddy, glowing with the rich tint of health. Eve was not quite as tall as Adam. Her head reached a little above his shoulders. She, too, was noble—perfect in symmetry, and very beautiful. 1SP 24

What is the role of Jesus ?

The Son of God was next in authority to the great Lawgiver, God.

Lucifer was envious and jealous of Jesus Christ. Yet when all the angels bowed to Jesus to acknowledge His supremacy and high authority and rightful rule, he bowed with them; but his heart was filled with envy and hatred. Christ had been taken into the special counsel of God in regard to His plans, while Lucifer was unacquainted with them. He did not understand, neither was he permitted to know, the purposes of God. But Christ was acknowledged sovereign of heaven, His power and authority to be the same as that of God Himself. Lucifer thought that he was himself a favorite in heaven among the angels.

He had been highly exalted, but this did not call forth from him gratitude and praise to his Creator. He aspired to the height of God Himself. He gloried in his loftiness. He knew that he was honored by the angels. He had a special mission to execute. He had been near the great Creator, and the ceaseless beams of glorious light enshrouding the eternal God had shone especially upon him. He thought how angels had obeyed his command with pleasurable alacrity. Were not his garments light and beautiful? Why should Christ thus be honored before himself? SR 14.1

He succeeded to convince some angels to his cause, made Man transgress that law of God. They were cast out of Heaven to Earth.

Sorrow filled Heaven, as it was realized that man was lost, and the world that God created was to be filled with mortals doomed to misery, sickness, and death, and there was no way of escape for the offender. The whole family of Adam must die. The sanction of the transgression was death for all of them.

But then, Christ made known to the angelic host that a way of escape had been made for lost man. He told them that He had been pleading with His Father, and had offered to give His life a ransom, to take the sentence of death upon Himself, that through Him man might find pardon; that through the merits of His blood, and obedience to the law of God, they could have the favor of God and be brought into the beautiful garden and eat of the fruit of the tree of life. To manifest this glory, to reveal the light of God’s love, He came to our sin-darkened earth. SR14

From the creator of everything on Earth, He appointed Himself as a sacrifice for the fallen mankind.

Christ reveal what was to happen to Him by the sacrificial offerings, and the priesthood of the Jewish system were instituted to represent the death and mediatorial work of Christ. All those ceremonies had no meaning, and no virtue, only as they related to Christ, who was himself the foundation of, and who brought into existence, the entire system. The Lord has made known to Adam, Abel, Seth, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and the ancient worthies, especially Moses, that the ceremonial system of sacrifices and the priesthood, of themselves, were not sufficient to secure the salvation of one soul. 2SP 10.

The Jewish system was symbolical, and was to continue until the perfect Offering should take the place of the figurative.

The birth of Jesus

An angel visited Mary and the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.Luke 1:3

But in the city of this royal line, Joseph and Mary were unrecognized, unhonored. Weary and homeless, they traversed the narrow street to the eastern extremity of town, vainly seeking a resting place for the night. There was no room at the crowded inn. In a rude building where beasts were sheltered, they at last found refuge, and here the Redeemer was born. HLv 26.2
And Mary brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

The tidings filled heaven with rejoicing. Holy beings from the world of light were drawn to earth. Above the hills of Bethlehem a throng of angels waited the signal to declare the glad news to the world. The leaders in Israel might have shared the joy of heralding the birth of Jesus. But they were passed by. To those who seek light and accept it with gladness, the bright rays from the throne of God will shine. See Isaiah 44:3; Psalm 112:4. HLv 26.3

But the birth of Jesus though it was in a manger, the son of God was still honored as a King. Kings came to bless Him with present and honor Him as the King with priceless present.

The childhood and youth of Jesus were spent in a little mountain village. He passed by the homes of wealth and the renowned seats of learning to make His home in despised Nazareth. HLv 40.1

“The child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon Him.” In the sunlight of His Father’s countenance, Jesus “increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” Luke 2:52

Today we are called Christians because we accept Him as our Saviour, we are greatful for His sacrifice, we live as He did when He was on Earth(without sin), and we are preparing ourselves daily for His second coming by living according to His teachings.

This is just an introduction to Jesus Christ's life and character, in the course of our weekly post, we shall go through everything He did during His life on Earth and much more.

He lived for 32 years on Earth and accomplished the first part of His mission which was to give His life for us, He will come again.

Thank you for reading, may God bless y'all!
